About

Hi! My name is Priya Natarajan and I am currently a 4th year UC Berkeley student studying the Toda language for my Linguistics 154 class on Language Revitalization. I particularly chose to research Toda because I speak Tamil and would like to investigate the similarities and differences between my language (the more dominant language in the area) and a closely related endangered language.

Since there is currently no website for the language or an easy way to research information about Toda, I decided to provide this content in a more accessible form to increase awareness and help revitalize the language among the younger generations and non-speakers in the surrounding area.

The purpose of this website is to provide a “public profile for the language,” to begin and encourage the process of sharing the Toda language in an accessible medium to all audiences, and to compile resources to be used by native speakers, non-speakers, linguists, and simply those who wish to explore the Toda language.

Additionally, my specific goals for this project are:
1. To preserve linguistically rich components of the language along with socio-cultural, historical, and geographical information about the culture of the Toda people
2. To compile resources into comprehensive and accessible medium
3. To explore the similarities and differences between Tamil and Toda
